Country music star Toby Keith died on Monday at the age of 62 after a long battle with stomach cancer. Now, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is speaking out to reveal new details about Keith's final days.
Favre speaks candidly about Keith's final days
Favre, 54, told TMZ Sports that he was a close friend of Keith and last spoke to him just days before his death.
“I think he was tired at the end,” Favre said. “He told me that when we had our conversation, he said, 'Brett… whatever happens, I'm OK with it.'
Favre went on to say that he was hopeful that Keith had “turned the corner” regarding his health despite appearing ill at his December shows in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, during their last conversation, it was clear that Keith was not feeling well.
“He said, 'I quit chemotherapy and it's probably going to do me more harm than the cancer did,'” Favre continued. “I just wish I didn't leave it too late, but…I'm grateful I got the chance to play some shows,” he said. “I'm done with them.

Favre praises Keith
Favre also praised Keith for the way he handled his battle with stomach cancer.
“[Keith] “I handled it with grace and faith and family and stood up to cancer as best I could,” he said, adding that he and the country music singer bonded over golf. Although Favre couldn't “remember a good or bad shot he took,” he remembers his positive attitude.
“I can just remember him smiling, and everyone was hollering and screaming and having so much fun,” he said before describing Keith as someone who was “a lot of fun” and “an entertainer” to the end.
“He was the best,” Favre concluded.
