SK Telecom, in collaboration with Intel, has made groundbreaking advances in core network technology, promising to significantly reduce communications delay and improve service efficiency, which is pivotal to the upcoming 6G networks. This innovation can reduce communications latency by up to 70% and enhance service efficiency by approximately 33%, representing a major leap forward in network performance.
This development addresses the increasing complexity of underlying networking technology, which has witnessed an explosion in the systems and functions needed to provide various services. This complexity often leads to network congestion and slow connection speeds. However, by introducing a new approach known as Inline Service Mesh, which leverages Intel Xeon processors equipped with AI capabilities, SK Telecom and Intel aim to simplify these processes. This technology enables more efficient communication flow within the network by reducing latency between functions without the need for proxies.
Thanks to this advancement, the integration of AI into the core network is set to expand, facilitating the creation of a more resilient and intelligent network infrastructure. This is especially critical for 6G infrastructure, which requires greater flexibility, security, and the ability to deliver consistent AI service quality and technology.
Yu Takei, Vice President and Head of Infra Tech Division at SKT, highlighted the company's ongoing collaboration with Intel as the cornerstone of securing a leadership position in 6G technology. Their collective efforts are focused on the ongoing research and eventual commercialization of 6G AI-based infrastructure.
Dan Rodriguez, Intel's vice president of Network and Edge Solutions Group, also emphasized the importance of their joint research and development efforts. These endeavors aim to provide telecommunications service providers globally with innovative solutions that enhance performance and efficiency, which is essential for the core networks of the future.
As the 6G era approaches, and with its standards still in the formulation stage, initiatives like these by SK Telecom and Intel are critical to forming the technological foundation for next-generation networks.
