    Fayetteville's Future Black History Makers: Meet Lawrence Smalls

    Lawrence Smalls III, 9, son of Lawrence and Aretia Smalls, is in fourth grade at William H. Owen Elementary School.

    He was nominated as a future black history maker because “Little Lawrence, as we like to call him, embodies so many great leadership qualities,” wrote his mother, Arieta Smalls, who nominated him. “Although he doesn't see it much himself, we are sure that his strong will and sense of justice will make a way for him in the world. Lawrence uses his voice to speak on behalf of others. He wants to do what is right and just and will stand up for those who have been hurt.” “For ill-treatment.”

    Future Black History Maker: Lawrence Smalls III, 9, attends William H. Owen Elementary School and wants to be a helicopter pilot when he grows up.

    What is your favorite subject in school? Science and English.

    What do you want to be when you grow up? Helicopter pilot.

    Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? Reading, all things Pokemon and soccer.

    What are you really good at? Reading and puzzles.

    What is your favorite thing about yourself? My mind!

    who is your idol? my dad.

    If you could meet any famous person, who would it be and why? Any author who wrote a book that I read. I want to write a book one day.

    If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Somewhere with beautiful beaches. I want to hang out and swim.

    If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it? Telekinesis, so I can move things. I will score all my goals in football.

    What is your favorite movie or TV show? Pokemon Series: XYZ (TV)

    If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be? Popsicles or pizza!

    What do his parents say?

    What makes your child a future black history maker? Lawrence sees the world in his own way. We believe his unique perspective will allow him to solve problems and find answers that will impact any community he is a part of.

    Why are you proud of your child? Lawrence is willing to try things. He is brave and puts himself out there to learn. He's a smart boy with a lot of ideas.
