Former US President Donald Trump criticized current President Joe Biden when he issued a statement condemning the killing of three US service members in a drone attack on a US military site in Jordan. The attack occurred on January 28 near the Syrian border. Officials claimed that the drones were launched by armed groups operating in Syria, according to CBS News.
According to The Hill, Trump shared a statement via Truth Social after the news broke and accused Biden of giving Iran billions of dollars to “spread bloodshed and carnage” in the Middle East.
“This brazen attack on the United States is another horrific and tragic result of Joe Biden's weakness and surrender,” he said.
“We are on the brink of World War III”: Donald Trump
Tragedy struck on Sunday, January 28, when three US service members were killed in a drone strike in northeastern Jordan at Tower 22, a small US military outpost near the Syrian border. According to US Central Command, about 34 service members were injured in the strike. Of the 34 people, eight were immediately evacuated to high-level care, according to CBS News.
Officials have not yet identified the specific militia that issued the strike, but they stated that the drones were launched from Syria by an Iranian-backed militia. Meanwhile, Iran denied any involvement in the attacks. Speaking at an event in South Carolina on Sunday, President Joe Biden paid his respects to the individuals who lost their lives with a moment of silence. According to CNN, the president said:
He added: “We know that the Iranian-backed extremist armed groups operating in Syria and Iraq carried out the attack.”
The president later pledged in a tweet:
“We will hold all those responsible accountable at the time and in the manner we choose.”
Then former President Donald Trump issued a statement criticizing the current president and praising the deceased. He called the day of the attacks “a horrific day for America” and stated that it was “the result of Joe Biden's weakness and surrender.”
“I express my deepest sympathies to the families of the brave soldiers we have lost. I ask all Americans to join me in praying for those who have been injured,” he wrote.
Trump then spoke about how “weak, broken, and completely under control” Iran was three years ago under his presidency. He claimed that his maximum pressure policy resulted in the Iranian regime being barely able to “get a couple of dollars together to fund its terrorist proxies.”
He continued: “Then Joe Biden came and gave Iran billions of dollars, which the regime used to spread bloodshed and massacres throughout the Middle East.”
Donald Trump claimed the attack would never have happened if he were president.
He added: “Just as the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel could never have happened, the war in Ukraine would never have happened, and we will now have peace around the world. Instead, we are on the brink of World War III.” He said.
Donald Trump declared that the attacks were proof that the United States needed to “return to peace through strength” to end the chaos, destruction, and loss of American lives. The former president ended his statement by claiming that the country “cannot survive” with Joe Biden as commander-in-chief.
