RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Reno Amazon workers packed 150 comfort kits Saturday to help the homeless as part of Global Community Engagement Day.

The effort was made in partnership with the KT Grace Foundation, which was established in memory of Katie Grace who died in 2017 at age 15 while crossing Plumb Lane.

Amazon workers packed cold-weather essentials like beanies, wool socks, fleece blankets and mugs into backpacks. The KT Grace Foundation helped get the backpacks to the people who need them most. Amazon said there are an estimated 1,700 homeless people in northern Nevada.

“Engaging with and giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do,” Kimberly Weingartner, founder of the KT Grace Foundation, said in a statement from Amazon. “This collaboration is a reflection of our commitment to these principles.”
