MOUNT PLEASANT SC (WCBD) – Leaders in Mount Pleasant discuss ways to improve the lives of residents, with a focus on recreation, transportation and small businesses.
Once a year, government members meet in Mount Pleasant to assess where the city is and where it is headed.
“This is a leadership meeting for the Town Council and the Mayor, and we started out today by talking about what infinite play is and what are the issues that don't exist today but what we need to work on today for the future of Mount Pleasant 5, 10,” said Will Haynie, Mayor of the Town of Mount Pleasant. In 15 years, that is 50 years from now.”
Mayor Will Haynie and all eight City Council members are tackling some of the most pressing issues the city faces, such as how to attract, retain and support small business owners.
“We need to make sure that we, in the city of Mount Pleasant, keep businesses going, especially small businesses, and help encourage the city to evolve by allowing the change to happen that needs to happen to keep us the way we are,” said Mount Pleasant City Councilman John Iacovano. “A vibrant community.”
Some other discussion topics improve city traffic and provide resources for a healthy community to thrive. The council said they plan to add new entertainment to encourage residents and visitors to lead a healthy lifestyle, which City Councilman Gary Santos says will have far-reaching impacts.
“The healthier you have a community, the better the quality of life is, and that's something I've always worked on,” Santos said.
Officials say the talks are just beginning, and they plan to revisit the discussion at their next meeting.
