She is the cleaning lady from Gympie who cleaned at SuperCoach BBL.
Charmaine Geer, an avid sports fan from Queensland, took home $25,000 as the winner of the BBL SuperCoach Award for BBL13.
The 57-year-old Oddfellows finished second in terms of total points, but the only team ahead of her was ruled ineligible due to living in the UK under Australian competition rules.
Charmaine said she was thrilled to win $5,000 for coming in second place, but she received a belated birthday present when she was notified she had won the day after she turned 57.
“I thought it was a scam, and I thought this couldn't be true,” she said.
“I've played before, but never finished so high.
“This year, luck just went my way.”
Charmaine rose from 235th in the rankings after the fifth round to second place after nine rounds, rising from there to 107th place before bursting into contention with a huge score in the seventh round of 1354.
“Eagle was my leader, and that brought it home,” she said.
“I thought, ‘I’m 16th, I might be in the top 10 here.’” The next week, I was coming into third place and I thought: “Oh my God, I can get second or third here.”
Eagle scored 216 points to help provide Charmaine's team with a platform for glory.
Hobart Hurricanes star Nikhil Choudhary is another player to be grateful to for her success.
“I knew him from the beginning and I didn't know much about him,” she said.
He was consistent for me and I thought this guy is okay.
“And for some reason, the Scorchers are always consistent. I had a lot of them most of the time too.”
“The weather was very important, you just have to make sure they play.
“You could have lost it all in the first round. The Heat had three games…but they only ended up playing two. You had to be really careful.”
And she won't be resting on her laurels, having already joined a team to achieve SuperCoach NRL glory.
“I love my sport,” she said.
“I love cricket and the NRL. I just love that kind of stuff.
“(SuperCoach) makes your mind work and you just have to keep an eye on things.
“The imports, they were annoying. You don't know when they're coming or going.”
Charmaine described herself as someone who loves sports, enjoys a beer, and spends her free time playing golf.
“My brother and my nephew, they are into their sports and they are immersed — especially my nephew,” she said.
“He can't believe it. They think it's so cool.”
“I'll hit (the prize) on the house, which is boring.
“And I want some stuff like new headphones, a new Boombox and stuff like that.”
