Record heat is expanding eastward
Above-average warmth in the central United States will continue to spread eastward on Tuesday, extending to most of the East Coast.
Nearly 230 million Americans will bake at above-average temperatures, with record high temperatures at risk.
Fast-moving storms bring strong winds and rain to the northeastern Great Lakes region
A series of storms will threaten the Great Lakes region and Northeast with strong winds, rain and even some rain snow this week.
Parts of northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan are expected to get snow on Tuesday, but as the system moves east, cold rain and strong winds will overwhelm more of the Great Lakes region and Northeast through midweek.
The risk of freezing rain and ice accumulation will also persist in parts of the Northeast as storms batter the region.
Wildfires are burning in North Carolina
Several wildfires are still burning in the West North CarolinaHomes were destroyed and a state of emergency was declared in Henderson County.
Severe drought continues in southwestern North Carolina, with moderate drought conditions across the western half of the state, increasing fire risk.
