A manhunt is underway after a gunman killed eight people over two days in suburban Chicago.
Police in Will County and the city of Joliet said they did not know the motive for the killing, but said the man knew the victims.
The FBI Fugitive Task Force is assisting local police in the search for the suspect, who has been named as 23-year-old Romeo Nance.
The victims were found on Sunday and Monday in three separate locations, several hours after authorities warned on social media that the man should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
One of the dead was found Sunday at a home in Will County. Seven others were found Monday at two homes in Joliet.
Authorities said they also believe another shooting in Joliet that left a man injured on Sunday is connected to the series of violence.
“I've been a cop for 29 years, and this is probably the worst crime scene I've ever been associated with,” Joliet Police Chief William Evans said.
Will County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Jungels did not know how long people had died in the homes.
The victims found Monday in the homes were members of the same family, Evans said.
