Ultra-liberal Hollywood star Alec Baldwin is reportedly in panic mode after being hit with new charges in the 2021 murder of cinematographer Halena Hutchins while filming his movie. Rust.
Baldwin reloaded
A New Mexico grand jury indicted Baldwin, 65, with manslaughter on Friday in connection with the October 2021 shooting that killed Hutchins, the Daily Mail reported. He has been formally charged with manslaughter on the grounds of negligent use of a firearm and disregard for the safety of others, and if convicted, faces up to 18 months in prison.
“We look forward to our day in court,” Baldwin's attorneys said in response.
Gloria Allred, who represents the Hutchins family, celebrated the indictment.
“Our clients have always sought to know the truth about what happened on the day Halena Hutchins was tragically shot and killed on October 21, 2021,” she said. “They continue to seek the truth in the civil lawsuit we brought against them, and would also like to see accountability in the criminal justice system.”
“The grand jury determined that there was sufficient evidence to convict Alec Baldwin of manslaughter,” Allred added. “We look forward to the criminal trial that will determine whether he should be found guilty of Halina’s sudden death.”

Baldwin panicked
A source close to Baldwin told People magazine that this indictment was “extremely stressful” for both the actor and his wife, Hilaria.
“They had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Hilaria just turned 40, the insider said. This is not how they wanted to start the new year. “It's stressful for Hilaria. It's frustrating for them to have Alec shipped back. They knew there was a possibility of a new indictment. The back and forth is tough. It's very stressful.”
Hutchins was killed and Rust Director Joel Souza was injured when a gun Baldwin was carrying exploded during filming. Although all charges against Baldwin were dropped in April last year, prosecutors later announced plans to recharge him after “new facts” emerged.
“After extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have emerged that we believe show that Mr. Baldwin has criminal liability in the death of Halina Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,” Special Prosecutors Carrie Morrissey and Jason Lewis said in a statement. statement at the time, according to The Wrap.
“We believe the appropriate course of action is to allow a committee of New Mexico citizens to determine whether Mr. Baldwin should be detained for criminal prosecution,” they added.

What do the new fees mean?
Santa Fe-based defense attorney and former prosecutor John Day, who is not directly connected to the case, told The Associated Press that this indictment gives prosecutors a potential opportunity to address Baldwin's safety obligations as a co-producer.
“We don't know exactly what their theory is,” Day said. “They may include his role as a key production executive… not having a safe workplace and someone dying while you're at the top.”
