Two explosions and a fire were reported at a site operated by Russia's second-largest natural gas producer on Sunday.

Local media reported that the explosions, believed to have been caused by a gas tank, occurred at Novatek's chemicals storage facility in the port of Ust-Luga, 100 miles southwest of St. Petersburg.

A statement provided by the company to RBC media said that this was the result of an “external influence” and that operations at the site had been temporarily halted.

A separate local news outlet reported that two drones flew toward St. Petersburg on Sunday morning. Kiev did not comment.

Yuri Zabalatsky, head of the Kingiseb district, where the port is located, said there were no casualties, but the region was placed on high alert.

Sky News was unable to independently verify the reports.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, no drone activity has been reported in the region, but four Ukrainian drones were shot down over the Smolensk, Oryol and Tula regions.

A Ukrainian drone was also shot down on the outskirts of St. Petersburg on Thursday.

On the border with Ukraine, 25 people were killed on Sunday after a market was bombed in the city of Donetsk.

Twenty people, including two children, were also injured in the raid that took place in Tekstilchik, according to the occupying Russian authorities in the area.
