An autumn storm tracks from the plains to the northeast
FOX Weather tracks the cold front sweeping across the Plains and causing severe weather. They produce snow in the mountains. The meteorologist's time is up as the storm approaches from the northeast on the weekend.
One of the first storm systems of the fall season is in full swing, bringing high-altitude snow to the west, heavy rain and severe weather to the Plains, and eventually a noticeable drop in temperatures for a large area of the country after summer temperatures brought record highs – BREAKING Heat for millions of Americans.
Severe thunderstorms Tuesday produced large hailstones in parts of the Plains, including large hailstones that fell in Kansas.
More of the same is expected in parts of Texas and Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Wet Wednesday expected in the southern Plains
The FOX Forecast Center says that by Wednesday, the cold front will extend from Minnesota into Texas, again bringing widespread rain along the front.
The bulk of the movement will be focused on Oklahoma and Texas, but the cold front is expected to slow down and allow more moisture to accumulate in the region.
Rain is welcome in the Plains, and 2 to 3 inches of rain is expected to help dry areas, but there is also the possibility that some areas will pick up 3 to 5 inches of rain during the week, which could lead to flash flooding.
Strong El Nino winter: What kind of weather can you expect?
The storm system is also creating snow on its back side, and higher elevations to the west could rise a few inches through Wednesday. The bulk of the snow will be found in northwest Wyoming, where highs could reach 3 to 5 inches until late Wednesday.
Weather forecast for Thursday and Friday
Rain will continue in the southern Plains on Thursday as cold temperatures begin to seep in from the north.
The Northeast will see rain starting Friday and continuing at times through the weekend.
Additionally, computer forecast models indicate a secondary cold front with another whiff of cold Canadian air by Friday, which will continue to spread southward and eastward across much of the central and eastern United States through the end of the week.
