ELORA – The town of Center Wellington wants to know what culture means to its residents and has launched an online community survey at ConnectCW.ca/culture.

The survey is open until February 28th.

Community Development Coordinator Paula Seely stated in a phone interview that the Cultural Action Plan was last developed and implemented in 2013.

The information, she noted, will guide the town as it develops new programs, improves parks, distributes grants, and considers community needs.

Seely said that culture means different things to different people. They include sports, theatre, festivals, restaurants, hiking trails, what language you speak and where you are from.

“It’s the way people put meaning in the world,” Seeley said. “It’s the way we share, learn and create together. And it affects every corner of society, including wellness, the economy — everything.

“Culture to me may not be what it means to you and that’s fine. That’s what we want to know.”

The survey must take five minutes to complete and those who answer will be entered into a drawing for: two weekend tickets to Riverfest Elora; two tickets to Adrian Sutherland at the Fergus Grand Theatre; Or two gift certificates for distillery tours at Elora Distilling Company.

Seely said the team will review the data and determine next steps. You see, the survey is the first of a three-phase project, and the results will be shared back into the community.

“We have a wide range of cultural activities in our community,” Mayor Sean Waters said in a press release.

“We want to hear from everyone at the Wellington Center about their thoughts and ideas on culture. This input will help us better understand how we can support artistic, creative, sporting and social activities that help us build community.”
