Weather is expected to be sunny, breezy and warm across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains on Thursday. High temperatures will range from the upper 50s to the very low 70s. Winds will be west-northwesterly, at a speed of 15 to 25 knots. It reaches speeds of up to 35 mph sometimes.

Tonight:
A strong cold front will move across the southern Plains and Rolling Plains this evening and tonight. This will bring another round of cold weather back to our area. Low temperatures will range from the lower 10s (singles) to lower 20s. Winds will be northeast at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Friday:
Friday's weather across the Southern Plains is expected to be mostly sunny to sunny, breezy at times and cooler. High temperatures will range from the lower to upper 30s. The wind will be east-northeasterly, at a speed of 10 to 20 knots.

There is a very slight chance of a shower or two in some areas across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains on Monday. Scattered rain is expected across the southern plains and rolling plains on Tuesday and Wednesday.
High temperatures on Thursday will range from the upper 50s to the very low 70s. Friday's highs will be much cooler with expectations of falling into the upper 30s. High temperatures on Saturday will remain on the cool side with temperatures expected to be in the mid to upper 30s. Mild weather returns Sunday with average temperatures rising to the upper 40s. High temperatures on Monday will be milder and range from the lower 50s to lower 60s. Highs on Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 50s. Highs expected on Wednesday will be in the upper to mid 50s.
Low temperatures on Friday and Saturday morning will range from the low 10s (singles) to the lower 20s. Morning lows on Sunday will range from the upper 10s (teens) to mid 20s. Monday morning lows will range from the upper 20s to mid 30s. Lows Tuesday and Wednesday morning will range from the middle 30s to lower 40s.
Drought update:
Very minor changes were noted in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) update released on Thursday, January 11. Most of the undulating plains and much of the southern plains are still classified as “drought-free” (D0). This includes the Lubbock metro area. Other than that, the USDM update showed some minor improvements compared to the southernmost plans in the far northwest. However, droughts from moderate phase (D1) to severe phase (D2) continue to be reported across the south-northwestern Plains. Parts of the far north and southwestern Plains, along with the southern and rolling plains, remain classified as “abnormally dry” (D0).
