Friday snow forecast: How much snow to expect in New York City, New Jersey and beyond

While we're not exactly digging who Snow on TuesdayCentral Park's 701-day “snow-free” streak finally ended.

Snow totals Tuesday ranged from about 1-3 inches, with a few locations receiving a bit more. Central Park received a total of 1.7 inches for the event, the most snowfall in nearly two years.

Friday's storm isn't much bigger than that according to the latest forecast — about 1-3 inches — and maybe a little more in the south and west, where the snow is better organized. Although there is broad agreement among the models, they still have another day or two to refine their thinking.

Whether you're a fan of snow, or not a fan of the white stuff, the math tells us that we're not exactly where we should be in the middle part of January. As it stands now, Central Park is among the few locations throughout the region where the deficit ranges from -5.6 inches (Bridgeport, Connecticut) to -7.9 inches (Newark, New Jersey). As of Wednesday, the deficit in Central Park was -7.5 inches.

So, even if we overachieve with this next system, we can get more.

We have issued a Yellow alert 8am to 8pm Friday for light to moderate accumulation, making for smooth travel, especially during the evening commute.

a Winter weather warning It will be in effect for parts of the region from 12pm to 7pm on Friday.

Cold air is certain through the weekend.

So what about next week? Well, don't hold your breath, snow lovers, because after the big cold comes the big climb.
