Several homes and buildings have caught fire in the Icelandic town of Grindavik after being surrounded by lava.
Lava flows slowed in the southwest, with a meteorologist telling the BBC that the situation near Grindavik had “calmed down considerably” on Monday.
The city was originally evacuated in November after a previous eruption, with some residents allowed to return temporarily. Defenses were then built in December, to prevent lava from reaching homes, but some were partially breached.
Drone footage taken on January 14 shows the extent of the damage caused by lava emerging from the ground, after two fissures opened nearby.
