Historic cold was observed this morning across western Montana. Kalispell, Butte, Dillon and Bozeman were some of the few locations with record lows. In Dillon, a low of 42 degrees below zero broke the all-time low temperature record. The old record low temperature ever was -37 recorded on December 24, 1983.

Overnight lows will fall into the 20s to lower 40s. Wind temperatures are expected to range from 30 to 50 below tonight and Sunday.

A weak disturbance will bring a few snow showers Sunday across southwestern Montana and along the Rocky Mountain Front. New snow amounts will remain less than an inch.

Temperatures will gradually rise to above zero on Monday. High pressure will trap some cold air, but increased humidity should help erode these cold clusters by midweek. Snow accumulation is likely Wednesday and Thursday.

Flood warning to 5 p.m. Saturday for part of southwestern Montana. Emergency management reported an ice jam near the advisory area. Minor flooding is already occurring in rural areas of West Central Madison County.

Wind chill warnings and advisories Coverage of all NBC Montana. Wind temperatures are expected to range from 30 to 55 degrees below zero this morning. Dangerously cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Avoid outdoor activities if possible. When outside, be sure to wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
