The Georgia state senator uses the insult “Uncle Tom”, and claims ignorance of the term’s origin

The Democratic Party has a predictable formula for dealing with people in the Republican Party that they believe should align with the left based on physical traits. Therefore, if you are a gay Republican, you are a traitor to your fellow homosexuals.

If you are a Republican woman, you are a traitor to your gender and may have been brainwashed by Christianity and your bossy husband. Finally, if you are a black Republican, you are a traitor to your race and are often called “Uncle Tom.”

Even Supreme Court justices aren’t immune to this kind of treatment, as demonstrated in the Georgia State Senate this week. In an act of utter ignorance, Georgia State Senator Emanuel Jones called Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas “Uncle Tom.”

Georgia State Senator Emanuel Jones (D) calls US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas “Uncle Tom” while opposing a bill to put a statue of Thomas in D.C.:

    to express

What could have caused such a vitriol of Justice Thomas? A Republican-led proposal to place a statue of the Georgia native on the state capitol grounds.

Debate over the proposal prompted Senator Emanuel Jones to protest, saying “We can’t avoid that conversation, so I won’t avoid it either.” What conversation could it be?

“In the black community we have an expression—and I don’t want to use that label too deeply here because I’m just trying to tell you what we have in the African American community when we’re talking about a person of color going back historically to the days of slavery and that person betraying their community—we have a term in the black community.”

This is quite the accumulation. So what is that term, Senator Jones? He continued, “This term we use is called ‘Uncle Tom.'”

Ah, here it is, in good time, insulting a man based on his political views that focus on the color of his skin.

I think we have a term for that in society at large; It’s called racism. But that’s not the best part; Senator Jones goes on to say:

And “Uncle Tom” is a character—either fictional or non-fictional, I don’t really know the origin of “Uncle Tom”—but it’s about someone who sold his soul during the days of slavery to the slave masters.”

At least he admits publicly that he has no idea what he’s talking about.

At the same time that he says he does not know the origin of “Uncle Tom”, he uses it to describe Clarence Thomas for daring to have his own beliefs.

This language has no place in America, and certainly no place in the Senate. pic.twitter.com/21zgyz0Ls9

    Quick note

It always bothers me, and let’s be honest, most of the time African Americans refer to other African Americans as “Uncle Tom.” For many reasons, this would make people uncomfortable if not for its lack of class and racism.

But what bothers me the most is that the adjective is meaningless. I’m an avid reader, and unlike most people who use the term “Uncle Tom,” I actually read “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852.

Harriet’s book was groundbreaking for the time because it humanized the plight of the suffering slaves. This has never been done before or at least not done well in the literature. It struck a chord with the white population of the time, perhaps significantly.

In her book, “Uncle Tom” is beaten to death for his quiet refusal to give up the place of three runaway slaves. The book was also interesting because Tom is definitely a stoic who is negative in understanding his situation. But, on the other hand, the three slaves are daring and daring — nothing that was thought of much in relation to women, let alone black women at the time.

The actual adjective comes from derivatives of this book known as “Tom Shows” in which the main character of the original work is ridiculed and vilified. Using the term “Uncle Tom” as a slur is not only an insult, but shows a passive acceptance of the same culture that aims to degrade the original work.

State Senator Emanuel Jones called Judge Clarence Thomas “Uncle Tom” because he is conservative.

    It’s never about color

One of the good things that come out of Senator Jones’ nonsensical argument is that he brilliantly articulates what this bogus outrage is about in the most wonderfully ignorant way possible.

Mr. Jones explains, “I don’t expect people of color to have the sensitivity that we feel about a person of color whose policies, practices, decisions, and voices…we have come together to fight.” Ah, so disagreeing with someone else’s political stances has a different emotional reaction to those of us white people of color?

Jones continues, “Judge Thomas’ decisions certainly sparked outrage among women and not just women of color, but all women.”

Jeez, I mean, I’m a woman last time I checked, and Judge Thomas didn’t stir any anger in me.

Then again, maybe I’m just a stupid racist white woman who needs a black man who doesn’t know if Uncle Tom is fictional or not to tell me how I should feel.

“And certainly, when we look at the LGBTQ+ community, their voices and the positions they’ve taken have sparked outrage in that community as well,” Mr. Jones added.

Bravo, Mr. Jones; You have inadvertently given a master lesson on the bad use of an already imprecise malformed adjective because you cannot debate issues on their principles versus relegating individuals to their essential characteristics.

A black senator calling Justice Clarence Thomas “Uncle Tom” while praising George Floyd as a martyr is a perfect example of the twisted and destructive mentality of the bullying culture prevalent in black communities.

Not the first time, it won’t be the last

Unfortunately, this was not the first time Judge Thomas had been called “Uncle Tom.” In 2017, Mississippi Congressman Benny Thompson referred to Justice as “Uncle Tom.” When asked if that was appropriate to what CNN said, he said it was because, “I’m black.”

typical response. Racism is okay if you’re a minority but not okay if you’re white. The truth is, racism is wrong no matter what color your skin is. But as usual, the mainstream media and establishment Republicans wouldn’t dare call this activism.

After a 2021 State of the Union rebuttal from Senator Tim Scott, the very clever term “Uncle Tim” went viral on Twitter. Because of this passive acceptance of the unacceptable, the Republican minority will continue to face baseless and tasteless attacks from the left.

Recently, an acquaintance of mine came across me claiming that when I write articles advocating racism that are not from the right or the white population, it makes me a racist. The truth is that this country has a racism problem.

We have racist leaders in every industry and elevated racist stereotypes in the media that glorify all the wrong things and demolish the good ones. Unfortunately, our society is too afraid to stand up and say enough is enough. Racism comes in many shapes, colors, and sizes — it is not unique to one color, group, or environment.

It could even come in the form of blissful ignorance from a senator.

If the shoe fits, wear it!!
