Weather Impact: The weather is turning cold and windy today
Forecast with meteorologist Ava Marie. We're in a busy weather pattern, so I'll explain each aspect one at a time. First, the rainfall we had last night where you see a lot of green across the state on the map. Most places actually ended up with a half inch or less, with you seeing a bit of dark green in Carroll County, closer to an inch of rain. Easton was one of the locations that received more than that, with closer to an inch of total rainfall. Fortunately, it wasn't as heavy as what we saw earlier this week. And now the two are rising, although in western Maryland, they're going to stay with snow showers for the rest of the day, so it's going to be smooth sailing there. In Garrett County, we have areas of fog forming across the Baltimore area because the temperatures are mild and humid right now. So there is still some moisture, and of course, the roads are still very wet from last night's rain. We are also monitoring the tides this morning because during high tide on Saturday morning, we expect some minor to moderate coastal flooding, including in similar places. And in Annapolis. But not as bad as it was earlier this week. Hence the evening tide looks much better in most areas. However, the winds will turn gusty again, so you will feel colder as the winds pick up. Temperatures actually drop as the day goes on, so this is one of those tricky days, where if you go out now, you might think it's not a bad day. The temperature is already close to 50 degrees, but it will get even colder. You can see that towards Woodstock and Westminster, where it's in the 40s now, in the 30s, actually, in western Maryland, as you go back to those snow showers here in the Baltimore area, we'll drop to 49 at 8:00 by ten. We are in our mid-forties. We're in the low 40s. By the afternoon, the sky will break out into sunshine, which helps, but winds will be out of the west at about 25 mph. So, it was a blustery, windy day, sometimes exceeding 40 miles per hour, which could still move around some boxes or cardboard boxes through the neighborhood. Hence it will be colder during this evening. Only in the thirties. By 6:00, the sun will set just after 5 p.m., and future radar will show how dry we are in Baltimore, but with additional snow showers. They might get a few more inches out there in Western Maryland, and then the cold air will start pushing in starting tomorrow. As that front moves across the Arctic front, it may produce a few isolated snow showers. Midday on Sunday. Temperatures should be above freezing, so this won't have a major impact on the roads, but don't be surprised if you see isolated snow showers tomorrow. Then we could see another snow threat later. This week is when it gets colder. So Tuesday could be the day we make an impact across this area, because any trace of a two-inch accumulation that could come Tuesday morning could cause slippery roads for Tuesday, could cause school delays. So we will keep our eyes on this. It looks like the bulk of it will come during the first half of Tuesday, which is our seven-day forecast. We have coastal flooding this morning, lower temperatures, and increased winds. Tomorrow is a cooler day in the 30s. Still windy with isolated snow showers. Monday looks dry. And I will tell you, the wind was much lighter that day, so it should be a lot more fun despite the cold weather. If you plan on coming out to the show on Monday for MLK Day. Now on Tuesday we have light snow in the morning enough to impact the area, possibly with slick roads and school delays as we reach nearly two inches of accumulation. Then look at Wednesday. Dry but cool only in the 20s. It's still going to be cold next week. There may be some light SN
