According to the Future Potential Index, Hungary's fertility rate has risen, making Hungarian society more sustainable, although the number of births is still below the desired level.
In 2023, the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design Foundation established the Future Prospects Observatory, a non-profit organization whose main mission is to study the future prospects of social entities.
The Future Potential Index (FPI) measures the extent to which a country has conditions that can ensure a good life in the long term.
For example, it shows:
- The extent of the state's ability to provide peace, security and order,
- Whether a country can ensure the development of human connections and healthy communities,
- The country's ability to support itself and future generations economically and morally,
- In the end, creating a kind of balance in human life.
Research Director Petra Akzel explained that the vision concept on which this index is based focuses on the good human life in its entirety, that is, a purposeful and organized social life, adding that the FPI consists of 22 different indicators that measure different functions. And the effects. The indicators can be grouped into four categories:

On the other hand, Israel and Slovakia are in the top ten.
Hungary is in the second quarter, ranked 12th, ahead of, for example, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States mentioned above
index Experts asked why Hungary ranked so highly in the index, almost making it into the top ten. “Hungary’s 12th place is due to the fact that we perform relatively well in several aspects, such as:
- Creating conditions for peace and order,
- Maintaining family and connection,
- employment and higher education.”

“The top three countries in the 2022 ranking, Iceland, Israel and Denmark, are countries with outstanding performances in peace and order, connectedness and community, and care, respectively, but Germany and Norway, which follow them, also show similar results,” Oskar Zoltan Santo, Scientific Director, highlighted. , This matter. He explained that Iceland, for example, performs best in the area of peace and order, partly due to its specific geography, while Israel is among the best in the area of connectedness (family, belonging). Denmark performs best among all countries in terms of welfare and material wealth.
The index also addresses the general role of design in shaping future luxury, and systems for describing and measuring digitalization processes. In this way, FPI will be able to link in the future to organizational development, geopolitics and innovation.
