Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire was recently talking about Jan. 6, like most Democrats, when she tried to sound smart by quoting Founding Father Ben Franklin.
Unfortunately for Shaheen, the famous quote was completely wrong.
This is a good reminder that many of our leaders are not very smart.
Townhall Reports:
The current US Senator misquotes Benjamin Franklin to fit the narrative about January 6th.
January 6 was a big event for Democrats, as they marked the third anniversary of the Capitol riot, insisting that it was an “insurrection” and that our very democracy — even though we live in a constitutional republic — was at stake. This was the case not only with several posts from multiple One participant in particular stood out, as she was obsessed with the idea of “democracy,” even misquoting Benjamin Franklin.
Shaheen began her thread from Saturday morning by claiming that “three years ago, insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the legitimate 2020 election,” using that buzzword Democrats love to use. “They assaulted and injured police officers. They threatened the lives of elected officials. “They have put our democracy at risk,” the post continued.
Then, another post misquoted Benjamin Franklin as saying “Democracy, if you can keep it,” also claiming that “January 6, 2021, was a stark reminder of how fragile our democracy is,” while sending a message suggesting Democrats would keep it. Talk about the events of that day. The post also said: “It is the responsibility of each of us to never forget the actions that led to that day so that we can ensure history does not repeat itself.”
Shaheen has since deleted her tweet but people have been screen covering her.

Ben Franklin actually said, “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Senator Jeanne Shaheen and others like her are trying to take your constitutional republic away from the people. https://t.co/XFbXhjMvWF pic.twitter.com/xrg2tGlrvO

It's amazing that a senator could get that famous quote so wrong. It says a lot.
