Mykonos and Santorini are one of the most popular Greek islands. It is easy to visit, near each other and well connected to Athens, which explains why most people visit them together. But if you can only see one and need to make a decision between Mykonos Vs Santorini, you will likely face a difficult decision.

Which island can be accessed more? Which one has a more romantic Vibi? Is one island more enjoyable to explore it than the other? These are all good questions to ask if you have to decide if you will include Mykonos or Santorini in your Greek islands.
Most people who were both have a strong preference for one or another (including us!). But the fact is that having to choose between Mykonos and Santorini is really difficult. Both island are beautiful, but they are completely different.
This is my advice to help your difficult choice.
Choose mykonos if …
… you love to celebrate
Mykonos is famous for its vibrant night atmosphere and its global atmosphere. The island has become a hot point for beach clubs and charming beach parties. Whether the beach, enjoying a global meal, or dancing all night in an exclusive club, Mykonos offers a dynamic mixture of relaxation and excitement that attracts travelers from all over the world.

… plan to spend more time on the beach
When it comes to beaches, mykonos has more about Sandy Shores more than Santorini. Besides a handful of wild beaches like Agios Sostis Sleepy, the best beaches are found in the south. From Platis Galios to Heaven, Bups Beats on the sand, while many (especially Psarou and Super Paradise) have beach clubs.

… you love more peace and calm
Despite the reputation of the party island, Mikonos looked quieter, quieter and generally less feverish than Santorini. With the exception of the city of Mykonos, which wanders with people at any time of the day, if you stay in one of the many beautiful resorts on the island, you will be able to enjoy some calm time.

Choose santorini if …
… you are looking for a romantic site
Santorini is famous for being an unlimited island with unique views, stunning sunset and unique architecture. If you are looking for an amazing place to spend honeymoon or a romantic weekend, this is the island to choose.

The unique architecture of the island, white buildings, blue churches and luxury amenities create a very romantic atmosphere. A mixture of these factors makes Santorini a famous destination for couples looking for a romantic haven or honeymoon.

… seeks to take great pictures
Due to the unique and visually amazing landscape, abundant natural light and vibrant colors, Santorini is an ideal place to take amazing pictures. The famous white buildings, dramatic slopes, and volcanic CALDERA provide endless opportunities for Asari photos.
… you love amazing views
I think Santorini is one of those places that you do not find anywhere on the ground. Al Jazeera It provides stunning views of Caldira, romantic sunset, and more relaxed atmosphere. One of my favorite memories was to find a quiet restaurant on the suburbs of Fira and sit there as it accommodates the sparkling water view in Caldera.

… you want to see the ruins of Minoan
If you have an interest in prehistoric ruins, Santorini offers a few interesting tourist attractions. The most important thing is the archaeological site Akrotiri, which may not seem impressive like Parthenon, but it raises the mind if you consider it 3600 years old.

Once a settlement in the Bronze Age in Minoan, Akroteri was preserved through a volcanic eruption that covered the city in ash about 1600 BC. This explosion was effectively closed the site, and created a time capsule that allowed the wonderful preservation of buildings, streets and antiques, providing a unique glimpse into the life of Minoan.
There are also the classic Greek ruins of ancient thira, which are worth exploring.
Mykonos Vs Santorini: Accessibility
… from the mainland
It can be easily accessible to both Mykonos and Santorini from the mainland of Greece, either by plane or by ferry. Although Santorini is a little further than Athens from Mykonos, there is no big difference when it comes to flight times (about 50 minutes from Athens). However, if you decide to go by phrase, expect a longer trip than Athens to Santorini (5-8 hours).

… access to each island
When it comes to traveling on each island, mykonos and Santorini vary slightly. If you travel by car, you will find that it is easier to drive the car in mykonos more than Santorini, which floats on a shelf. Also, although both islands have a large -scale bus system, it is much easier to eat buses and taxis in mykonos compared to Santorini – where transport is necessary every time. Santorini transport operations take place in the city of OIA and the time you spend on the bus began to add.

Also, due to the difficult terrain in Santorini, donkeys and mules are often used to transport people and supplies from the coast to the high areas where most villages are located.
Mikonos Vs Santorini: Costs
Regarding the costs, both islands are the tourist hot points, so it is not surprising that both Mykonos and Santorini are very expensive. When it comes to housing, depending on the type of accommodation you choose, you will pay more in mykonos for a luxury hotel from Santorini. However, both islands are famous for its expensive prices for food and drinks.

However, you do not have to break the bank to visit Santorini or Mykonos mainly because both island is relatively small and you will not need to stay longer than 3 nights on either of them. Moreover, unless you want to eat in a main site restaurant like OIA and Paradise Beach, it is easy to find more reasonable alternatives outside these areas.

Mykonos vs Santorini: crowds
As a general note, both Santorini and mykonos are very crowded carrots. But although mykonos is much smaller, mykonos feels less crowded than Santorini, especially outside the main cities. But even Mykonos Town, the biggest attractiveness on the island, looks less crowded because it is broader and has many alleys, bias and places to visit.

On the other hand, Santorini is famous for the famous CALDERA opinions and unique architecture. Unfortunately, these traits attract huge crowds, especially during the summer months or when cruise ships turn here as well. Among the top tourist attractions on the island – Fira and OIA – on the mountain side and the only way to visit it is walking in the narrow strip at the top of Santorini Caldera.
So anyone chooses: Mykonos, or Santorini?
Between the two, my favorite island Mykonos – but Santorini is one of those places that you did not find anywhere on the ground. So identifying anyone will be a better option for you depends on what you hope to get out of your vacation. I hope this guide helps you get an idea of these two islands!
