With the NBA’s top free agents in 2024 already finding new homes, there are still a few notable names available. However, that doesn’t mean teams still can’t find plenty of value in players who haven’t yet signed new contracts.
Best NBA Free Agents Available
Of course, the chances of finding a star this late in the free agent market are slim to none. But winning an NBA championship takes a lot, and there are still enough players who could become a draw for many teams.
With that in mind, we'll take a look at the free agent pool and highlight the top five players still available on the NBA free agent market.
5. Luke Kennard
Our list of the best free agents in the NBA in 2024 starts with Luke Kennard. While he’s not a star, he’s made more than enough money in his career that it’s safe to assume he’d be willing to accept a much lower price tag in order to play for a contender.
Kennard is a reliable three-point shooter, and those shots are valuable in today's game. Furthermore, he plays within his role, and has embraced roles as a starter or substitute. He also has the ability to create opportunities for others, and he's not the worst defender by any means.
4. Talen Horton Tucker
For years, Los Angeles Lakers fans expected Talen Horton-Tucker to shine. He played very well in limited minutes and looked like he was on the verge of becoming a star. But that didn’t happen, and he was also dropped from the Utah Jazz’s starting lineup, which was disappointing.
But again, he's talented enough to be worthy of playing here. He's still young, and he's had some great scoring performances. While he's not a big three-point shooter, he's also shown he can score points if needed, and he shouldn't be the most expensive player on the team.
3. Precious Achiwa
The New York Knicks may have been the biggest winners and losers of the offseason, but it came at a steep price, too. They don’t have enough money to bring back Precious Achiuwa, and the fact that he’s still a free agent at this point in the offseason is somewhat surprising.
Achiuwa certainly doesn't have great hands, and he's not the most accomplished defender, but he can provide a tremendous amount of energy off the bench. He does things similar to what Bobby Portis does except shoot, and he always gives his team some positive minutes on the second unit.
2. Tyus Jones
Tyus Jones is perhaps one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He has some of the traits you would want in a center: he rarely loses the ball and knows how to pass it to teammates in effective spots.
Jones has proven he can lead the charge as a starter, but he’s more suited to playing off the bench. While he’s not a great defender, he’s not a huge liability either. He has the potential to be a sixth-year player of the year candidate in the right environment.
1. Markel Fultz
Last but not least, Markelle Fultz rounds out our list of the best free agent signings in the NBA right now. It’s safe to say that he will never live up to expectations and that he went through one of the most bizarre situations in NBA history when he literally forgot how to shoot.
However, he has reinvented himself with the Orlando Magic, finding multiple ways to score. He is a skilled player who can play on and off the ball and start or play with the second unit. At the right price, he could end up being a bargain for a contender.
