Cavaliers 2024 offseason plan: Big decisions this summer

The Cleveland Cavaliers' offseason plan in 2024 is officially underway. Once again, this team fell short in the playoffs, and was never considered a championship-caliber team.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' cap space situation is not as bad as other teams. They are expected to have the 13th most space in the league in the summer, so although they may find it difficult to sign top free agents this offseason due to the small market they play in, they could still find some useful players.

However, this team faces a lot of questions. Their series against the Boston Celtics was not close, and it appears they are still far behind the actual contenders, even if they have made the playoffs time and time again.

With that in mind, we'll dive a little deeper into the Cavaliers' offseason plan in 2024 and what they need to do to fix it.

    Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland?

Donovan Mitchell trade rumors have resurfaced. He has not committed to the organization long-term, and although he has two years remaining on his contract, they could get a significant return on his contract if they trade him now.

If not, and in a shocking turn of events, he decides to extend his stay there, it must be time to move on from Darius Garland, because the chemistry together is not good.

Garland has backed down with Mitchell. His attempts and shot usage have declined, and although the numbers were strong last season, he failed to make another leap forward. There's no point in having two undersized guards controlling the ball, and Garland left a lot to be desired in the playoffs.

It's decision time for Evan Mobley

The same goes for Evan Mobley. He'll be eligible to sign a huge contract extension this summer, and he hasn't done much to earn it.

He stepped up defensively, which could have been a big factor there, but he never developed his offensive touch, and all the comparisons to Chris Bosh as a floor spacer seem ridiculous now. Is it really worth the big money deal?

There are doubts about his fit next to Jarrett Allen. They suffer from this lack of spacing, and if they were to hold onto their pick, it would make sense for them to look to move the former Brooklyn Nets big man.

JB Bickerstaff's future is in doubt

Truth be told, there wasn't much J.B. Bickerstaff could do with the hand he was given. Although the Cavaliers were solid, they were not a great team. They lack depth, and are not at the same level as other teams in the East.

However, it's also worth noting that Bickerstaff's adjustments – or lack thereof – have often frustrated fans, especially in the playoffs. He's not solely responsible for his team's debacle, but he doesn't seem to have done much to help his cause either.

    Miracle savior?

The best and most likely scenario for this team is to trade Mitchell and Allen and build their roster around players who have no other choice but to stay there. But what if they could bring back the greatest player in franchise history?

LeBron James wants to play with Bronny and may opt out of his contract with the Lakers to become a free agent. Bronny enters the draft. Cleveland has two draft picks. Do we really need to explain this?

There would be no better way to end one of the greatest careers in professional sports than to return to where it all began. And even though his relationship with Dan Gilbert may not be great, he can still bring her back. He was even present to watch one of their losses to the Celtics.

Although it may seem unlikely, it is not so far-fetched.
