A new study has revealed that Edinburgh Castle is the most Instagrammed destination in Scotland, with a total of 723,165 posts including its hashtag!
Private tours in Scotland Users have analyzed Instagram data for 30 popular Scottish tourist destinations, to reveal the most tagged destinations on the platform by users.
Stirling Castle
The tenth most Instagrammable destination in Scotland is Stirling Castle, with 92,983 posts using its hashtag. Once a favorite residence of Stuart kings and queens, Stirling Castle has impressive galleries and beautiful gardens that you can explore at your leisure. Entrance to the castle is £16.50 ($20.96) for an adult ticket.
Donan Castle Island
In ninth place is Eilean Donan Castle, with a total of 108,495 Instagram posts. One of Scotland's most famous castles, this monument overlooks the Isle of Skye, where three lochs meet, and is surrounded by the forested Kintail Mountains. An adult ticket costs £12 ($15.25) to visit this truly beautiful destination.
Isle of Arran
The Isle of Arran is the eighth most popular place on Instagram, with 149,863 posts. This island has an ever-changing coastline, dramatic mountain peaks, luscious forests and stunning beaches to suit all visitors.
Ben Nevis
Ben Nevis, the largest mountain in Scotland, comes in seventh place, with a total of 276,055 posts including its hashtag. The legendary peak of Ben Nevis towers above sparkling lakes and deep glacial valleys, with two main walking routes built on your hiking experience. For those who want to ride the gondola, an adult day pass costs £24.95 ($31.73).
Arthur's Seat
Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh took sixth place, with 305,598 posts using its hashtag. As the highest point in Holyrood Park, Arthur's Seat is an ancient volcano located 251 meters above sea level, offering a stunning view of the city. Entry is free for visitors and it is open all year round.
Cairngorms National Park
In fifth place was Cairngorms National Park, with a total of 331,923 posts on Instagram using its hashtag. The Cairngorms is the UK's largest national park, boasting stunning landscapes including wild mountains, heather moorland, woodlands, wetlands and rivers running through floodplains.
Loch Ness
The world-famous Loch Ness ranks fourth, with 527,939 posts including its hashtag posted on the social media platform. Loch Ness contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined, making it the largest lake in the United Kingdom by volume. Loch Lomond
The third most Instagrammed destination in Scotland is Loch Lomond, with 596,965 posts using the hashtag #lochlomond. This beautiful freshwater lake crosses the Highland Boundary Fault and is surrounded by charming villages, countryside and hills. The water is also accessible for those looking for activities such as canoeing, open water swimming, and kayaking.
Glencoe
Glencoe comes in a close second, with 607,634 posts including the hashtag #glencoe. Located within the Lochaber Geopark in the Highlands, Glen Coe's deep valley and towering mountains were shaped over thousands of years by shifting glaciers and volcanic eruptions, making it an ideal destination for explorers.
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle takes the crown as the most Instagrammed place in Scotland, with an impressive 723,165 posts using the hashtag #edinburghcastle. Located on Castle Rock in the country's capital, Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. The castle contains Britain's oldest Crown Jewels, Scotland's Medals of Honor, making this spot a must-see destination for visitors to the capital. An adult ticket costs £19.50 ($24.84) per visit and is open to visitors from 09:30 to 18:00 daily during the summer period.
