SINGAPORE, April 13 (Bernama) – Delicious Malaysian breakfast dishes stole the show at the inaugural Malaysia Travel Escapade 2024, at Suntec City Mall, from April 12 to 14.
The scent of nasi lemak and roti canai, as well as chicken bak kut teh, wafted in the air – attracting visitors who had come to taste Malaysia's culinary heritage to the three-day travel fair.
Malaysian breakfast culture has been chosen as the highlight of this travel exhibition, in line with the government's submission to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, said Mohana Morni Shanmugam, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia in Singapore.
“We are pleased to highlight Malaysian breakfast culture and give visitors the opportunity to taste authentic Malaysian cuisine.
“We believe that Malaysian breakfast culture is unique and has become an integral part of the country’s heritage, and deserves recognition and promotion as we prepare for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” she told Bernama, here, on Saturday.
Visitors also enjoyed a mesmerizing display of live Teh Tariq performances by the “Malik of Teh Tariq” Fakir Mohd Jamal Mohd from Kedah, showcasing the artistry behind the famous Malaysian tea.
Mohana Murni said that this year, Malaysia aims to receive 27.3 million international tourists, including 10 million arrivals from Singapore, which will generate 102.7 billion Malaysian ringgit in tourism revenues.
She said that last year, Singapore ranked first as a source of tourist-generating markets, contributing significantly to the arrival of 8.3 million arrivals.
She added that the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 has set a target of 35.6 million foreign tourists, with a targeted arrival of RM147.1 billion.
Malaysia Travel Escapade 2024 also provided a glimpse into Malaysia's vibrant culture by showcasing handicrafts and traditional products including Sarawak black pepper, gula apong and coconut sugar, as well as rejuvenating spa services, courtesy of the Malaysian Spa Association (AMSPA).
Among the offers at the expo was a two-hour package worth S$48 for clients of the spa located in Johor Bahru, said Roslyn, manager of Manga Spa.
“Our customers are 50-50 between locals and Singaporeans. The spa is one of the main attractions for Singaporeans when they visit Malaysia. This exhibition allows us to promote our products and the Malaysian spa experience to Singaporeans and help increase tourism in Malaysia,” she said.
