A festival celebrating Ukrainian culture has launched in Gloucestershire.

The celebration of Ukrainian culture takes place at Folk of Gloucester on Westgate Street from April 13-27.

Volunteer Robin Burton said that this festival aims to introduce Gloucester residents to Ukrainian culture.

“It also aims to give refugees fleeing conflict in Ukraine the opportunity to come together and be proud of their own culture.”

The festival includes art exhibitions, photography, music, dance, drama, craft workshops, music workshops and more.

Highlights of the concert include the Kozachki Choir from Bristol, opera singer Uhla Hornyk, rare Ukrainian instrument player Kobzar Yurig Vedensky, and bandura players, Kalyanova's sister.

In dancing, there will be Sunflowers Wales, a traditional Ukrainian dance group from Swansea.

Another highlight is the youth drama Untold Stories, which premiered at Everyman in Cheltenham, in which nine teenagers tell their story of leaving Ukraine and starting a new life in the UK.

Robin Burton, a volunteer with The Folk of Gloucester, said: “This festival aims to introduce the people of Gloucester to the amazing richness of Ukrainian culture.”

“It also aims to provide as much joy as possible to everyone.”

Admission to most events is free. However, workshops and some concerts can only be accessed by ticket.
