Mike Lindsay has released “table”, his second collaboration with Anna B Savage that appears on his upcoming album Superforms Volume 1. The first, “Lie Down,” accompanied the album announcement in February, and Lindsay shared the song “kachumber” last month. Watch a video for “The Table,” created by Lindsay's close collaborator Ben Edwards (aka Benge), below.
Discussing the collaboration, Savage said:
I asked Mike to send me a large email with his current preoccupations and nagging thoughts. He sent a folder containing a section on holistic spirituality. Panpsychism is (to put it simply, forgive me) the idea that every being in the world has consciousness of some kind, no matter how “inconceivably simple” that consciousness may be. Mike was thinking about this phenomenon especially in relation to a dining table he bought used. He was one hundred and twenty-two years old, he said, “so for 122 years people sat around… and shared stories or experiences with each other.” This is obviously a fantastically evocative idea, so when I came to record, I ran with that, imagining a series of vignettes around the table. We hope to evoke true beauty in the monotony of life around something. Finally, the table is given a more specific awareness: “What does the table think of you?”
Working with Mike on his Superforms project will forever be one of my favorite endeavors. Any excuse to work with him more I could come up with, and in particular, the belief that he wanted me to work on something was too much for my little heart to handle. We had (and have) a lot of fun. What more could you ask for?
Regarding the song's video, Lindsay added: “There's something brilliantly strange about Benge's video for the table. It initially captures the nostalgia for all the table scenarios that Anna sings about through gorgeous found footage, but then suddenly, juxtaposed with the cacophony of saxophone ensembles… For Robert, we feel the pure joy of the colorful digital VHS tables flying at us from every angle.. Sizzling with powerful magic!! Quite a tablet!
Superforms Volume 1 It will be released on June 14 via Moshi Moshi Records.
