Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday mocked Congress' “archaic culture” after more than 600 lawyers wrote to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, raising concerns about the actions of a “specific interest group”.
Prominent lawyers like senior advocate Harish Salve and Bar Council of India president Manan Kumar Mishra were among the 600 people who wrote to the CJI.
He said the culture of Congress is to intimidate and bully others while they “shamelessly” want to stick to their own selfish interests.
In a post on But “desist from any obligation to the nation. No wonder 140 crore Indians reject them.”
Taking issue with PM Modi's comment, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that all the Prime Minister has done in the last 10 years is to divide, distort, divert and defame.
Regarding Prime Minister Modi's statement that “no wonder 140 crore Indians are rejecting” Congress, Ramesh said: “140 crore Indians are waiting to give him a befitting reply very soon.”
Ramesh said in his post on the X website: “The Prime Minister’s impudence in organizing and coordinating the attack on the judiciary, in the name of defending the judiciary, is the height of hypocrisy!” The Supreme Court has dealt him physical blows in recent weeks. The electoral bonds program is just one example. The Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional – and it has now been proven beyond doubt that it was a blatant tool of fear, blackmail and intimidation to force corporations to donate to the BJP.
“Instead of giving legal guarantee to MSP, the Prime Minister has given legal guarantee to corruption. All the Prime Minister has done in the last 10 years is to divide, distort, divert and distort. 140 crore Indians are waiting for him to give a proper response very soon,” he added.
The lawyers said in the letter that a “special group” uses pressure methods to influence judicial outcomes, especially in cases involving political figures and allegations of corruption.
They also accused the “interest group” of creating a false narrative about the judges and the court, while also accusing the group of “distorting the bench,” “comparing local courts to those in outlaw regimes,” and “assaulting the honor of the judges.” “
The group of lawyers also pointed out the timing of the tactics used by the “interest group,” saying, “The timing of how they operate also deserves close scrutiny — they do so at very strategic times when the nation is ready to go to war.” “We recall similar actions in 2018-2019 when they carried out hit-and-run activities, including fabricating false narratives.”
The lawyers called on the Supreme Court to take preventive measures against these attacks in order to preserve the integrity of the judiciary.
“Efforts to belittle and manipulate the courts for personal and political reasons cannot be allowed under any circumstances… Remaining silent or doing nothing could inadvertently give more power to those who mean harm,” the lawyers said.
