Ekko Astral has announced its debut album for Topshelf, Pink balloons, sharing the single “devorah” with the news. The LP will be released on April 17, and includes the previously shared song “baethoven.” Watch Kate the Cursed's video for “devorah” below, as well as the album cover (by Pablo Manriquez) and tracklist.
“This song is about compassion for marginalized people despite the harassments of capitalism and expressing gratitude to those who persevered through the worst our world has to offer,” the band said in a statement. The chorus is a reference to “missing and murdered indigenous people,” a term often used to describe the high rate of murdered and abducted Native Americans. It is an indication that our country does not give any legal approval to the use of these people’s lands, but is willing to express a form of remorse Verbalization of those who left too soon…and what that says about how all of its historically disadvantaged communities cope.”
