Mangalore: Konkani Adhyana Betta University Mangalore in collaboration with Milagris College, Mangalore A one day National Conference on “Konkani Folklore and Future” is organized on 26th March 2024 at 9.30 AM in the College Hall.
The chief guest Professor BL Dharma, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University, inaugurated the programme. While addressing the audience, he said that encouraging popular culture must start from home.
Folk traditions such as the use of turmeric and rose milk that were followed in past years have scientific benefits. But the current generation has abandoned those practices that lead to many skin diseases.
He also suggested that students undertake small projects such as collecting and analyzing folk stories, folk traditional items and tools while consulting elders in their community.
Dr. Jayavantha Nayak, Coordinator, Konkani Adhyana Pitta, Mangalore University, gave an introduction to the symposium and explained how Mangalore Konkani Adhyana Pitta University works to promote Konkani language, culture, folklore and research.
The program was chaired by Father Bonaventure of Nazareth, correspondent of Milagres College. He expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the university in promoting education and congratulated the Vice President of the University.
Rev. Father Michael Santhomayor, Principal and Campus Manager of Milagres College welcomed the gathering.
On behalf of the management of Milagres College Prof. B. L. Dharma, the new Vice Chancellor was felicitated.
Wilson Pinto, a Konkani grassroots activist in Mumbai, was the resource person for the programme.
Rev. Dr. Leo Lasrado, Secretary Designate, Catholic Education Board, Mangalore, Coordinator Tracy Pinto, Konkani, Milagres College and student representatives Anson Pinto took the stage.
Irene Rebelo conducted the first technical session on the theme of Konkani Christian folklore and the future. Bindumadhava Shenoy led the second session on GSB Konkani Folklore and the Future. Dr Roshan Pinto, Director of Alphas Homeopathic College, Modbury, participated as a member of the program committee.
At one-thirty in the afternoon, a farewell party was held for the programme.
