Ripple Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz It has issued an important warning regarding ongoing scams targeting customers of the now-defunct cryptocurrency trading platform FTX. As FTX's bankruptcy proceedings progressed and some customers became more likely to pay, opportunistic scammers began to emerge, aiming to prey on unsuspecting victims.
according to BloombergFTX told a bankruptcy judge in January that the company's creditors who can prove its losses would likely get all of their money back.
In light of this, scammers are said to be reaching out to FTX customers, offering to speed up the claims process or recover assets from the beleaguered exchange. However, these offers are nothing more than a scam to trick users and possibly steal (more) of their assets.
Ripple CTO issues warning
The collapse of FTX, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, dealt a serious blow to the cryptocurrency industry, causing widespread uncertainty and loss of confidence among investors. In the aftermath, many users were left in limbo, hoping to get their money back. In this context, Ripple's CTO warns of scams exploiting the situation.
According to Schwartz, fraudulent emails are currently circulating, claiming that customers should take action regarding their FTX claims. These unscrupulous actors generally exploit the fear of customers losing their claims, urging them to link their crypto wallet to verify eligibility or speed up the claims process.
Ripple CTO warns users not to click on links in fraudulent emails when sharing the link to the official FTX claims page.
Users should keep in mind that the deadline for submitting proof of claim due to a customer claim has passed – September 29, 2023.
