Brooklyn punk band THICK have released a new song titled “Father.” The track, compiled after the death of singer/guitarist Kate Black's father, arrives with a video directed by Sidney Tate Bradford. Check it out below.

“THICK has always been a cathartic outlet for frustration and anger, but 'Father' is the first time I've tapped into grief and loss without the vitriol coming back,” Black said in a statement. “This song is a snapshot of my journey with grief after losing my father, at a time when it was still a surprise every time I wanted to ask him a question and I remember he wasn't there.

“It's scary to share something so personal and vulnerable,” Black continued. “I could barely record the first voice note I sent Nicki for the song, and you could hear the tears streaming down my cheeks.” “It can be hard to play live, my whole body is stiffening up against my emotions. But, it was helpful when people shared their experiences and related to the song, it's a nice reminder that you're never alone.”

The band added about the video: “Experiences of grief are very personal experiences. For the music video for ‘Father’, we invited people to share the feelings of sadness and loss that are for them and express them in whatever way they feel most comfortable – through movement, music, screaming, etc. The participants amazed us and we are so grateful that they were willing to share themselves and get raw with us.

THICK's second album, happy now, released in 2022. Last year, they released the single “Doomer.” Read our Artist Spotlight interview with THICK.
