The city wants to develop a 10-year roadmap to build a “vibrant and sustainable arts and cultural ecosystem that celebrates creativity and diversity.”
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The City of Fayetteville is creating an arts and culture plan that will take shape over several months of community engagement.
“Fayetteville has a long history of being a place for artists, musicians and cultural expression. For that to continue as we grow, we have to think strategically about that,” said Joanna Sheehan Bell, director of arts and culture. City manager. “This is an opportunity for us to get feedback from our community members and kind of start the conversation.”
The city wants the plan to serve as a 10-year roadmap for the future. He encourages residents to share their favorite parts about art in Fayetteville and what they would like to see more of.
“Everything from murals in public spaces to cultural institutions,” Bell said. “From public art, as you can see behind me, to what kind of concerts you're looking forward to seeing, and what kind of community events and gatherings we'd like to see in our city.”
As the area continues to grow, the city wants to be able to maintain that growth when it comes to the arts.
“If you don't plan to be a culturally vibrant place, you're not going to continue to be a culturally vibrant place,” Bell said.
“If someone could make an abstract sculpture that I could skate on? I would love to,” said Garrett Gonzalez, an avid skater and Fayetteville resident. “Can I match the energy of the arts, or can I match the energy of the sculptures with this trick with skating? Or how do I move?
The City of Fayetteville is encouraging residents to share their thoughts through an online survey as well as various events organized by the City including the Fayetteville Farmers Market and the “Weekend Starts” series in the Lower Ramble.
A statement issued by the city explained that “the community participation phase of the planning process will continue until this summer.” “It will include activities and events where city staff can gather input and ideas from a wide range of stakeholders, including artists, cultural organizations, community leaders and residents. This collaborative approach will help ensure the arts and culture plan reflects diverse voices and visions.” From the Fayetteville community.”
Bell says she wants everyone in Fayetteville to participate in the awareness phase.
