Earlier this year, Toronto indie band Tokyo Police Club revealed that 2024 would be their final year as a band. Today, they share their latest tracks, “Just a Scratch” and “Catch Me If You Can,” which were recorded with producer Jesse Turnbull. They have also announced a farewell tour in North America. Listen to the band's new songs and find the list of dates below.
“Even in demo form, even before we knew it would be our last release as TPC, the songs were a summation for me, filled with everything that made me fall in love with this band in the first place,” said band member Graham Wright. In the current situation. “I hear parts we might have come up with in the garage at the time, and other parts we couldn't have even dreamed of yet. I hear all the music we've ever loved and all the music we've ever made — and most importantly, I hear the voice of us, the four of us, and the mind The energetic person who represents TPC, with all his ideas and enthusiasm.
Singer Dave Monks added: “I remember Graham sending me a drive folder full of loops and riffs and song tidbits, and digging through it like a treasure chest. Pulling things into ProTools and animating them in different ways, it's a fun thing we've messed around with before on La Ferrassie and Feel the Effect That's why the drums in “Catch Me If You Can” drop so many times; this was just part of the loop that Graham sent, and I love how this adds to the arrangement in a way we wouldn't have come up with naturally.
Speaking about their recent tour, drummer Greg Allsopp said: “It's been so wonderful to have people reach out and share their feelings about the end of the band and what this has meant to them all these years. It's been so encouraging to connect with everyone again in this way and it gives everything “A lot of life and energy will come through this year. I'm so happy that we can still do what we've done for a little longer – release some music, play some shows and be involved with the Tokyo Police Club.”
Guitarist Josh Hook commented, “We were so lucky and privileged to be able to share our music, but more importantly, we shared personal moments – from graduations to birthdays and on-stage proposals. It’s great to continue to see the same familiar faces that have shown up since the early days of Touring and connecting with so many people through music over the course of almost 20 years of life is a true honor. This final tour will be the best retirement party anyone could hope for. Thank you so much for being with us on this wild ride.
