The latest storm tracker forecast by a Jordanian meteorologist
The radar was definitely active today! In Albany, there were periods of heavy rain after drizzle that continued throughout most of the day. The mountainous areas in the north witnessed some snow and mixed rain, which will continue to fall later tonight. Otherwise, you may have felt some rain or seen some flakes if you're further south in the DC area.
The winds will increase throughout the weekend. A wind warning has been in place for most areas in the western Catskills, eastern Columbia and Rensselaer County, along with most of the Berkshires and Pennington counties, Vt. This Winter Weather/Winter Storms map also shows some places in our area that have received either a Winter Weather Advisory or a Winter Storm Warning which is now in effect!
Although the majority of us only saw a few showers with ice pellets for a split second, most of those around us in the hills and mountains will see more snow. Bennington, VT and the Berkshires could see anything from a coating to 2″ or if you're in Vermont, you can expect 4″-8″ locally as snow continues to accumulate into Sunday morning. The Adirondacks also see a significant amount of snow, ranging from 4 to 8 inches, especially at higher elevations.
There is a wide variety in the amount and quality of rain we saw today. Some places see only rainfall, while others see more variable rainfall. It will be a cloudy day on Sunday before more snow begins to fall on Monday morning. Hopefully you didn't put your snowshoes away!
Future precipitation shows that most places on the map will receive 1 to 1/5 inch of rain. This is because the following systems bring a lot of moisture and mixed rain which will continue for the rest of the weekend.
Overnight low temperatures will remain in the mid 30s. Monday we stay in the lower 40s/upper 30s. Then we just raise the temperature from there…
Don't forget to turn those clocks in tonight as we move forward! It will be breezy tomorrow, with mountain snow and persistent morning rain to follow on Sunday. Great chance of seeing evening snow showers on the hills and mountains.
We start the new week with strong winds and a breezy Tuesday. Snow showers are likely on Monday, adding more accumulation to places that previously received that wet snow. The good news is that the rest of the week looks promising and spring-like! Temperatures will reach the early 60s. Saturday will be the best day for the upcoming weekend as we expect more rain on St. Patrick's Day and the rest of next week.
