Heavy rain continued throughout Friday, making for a wet and dreary weekend. If that's not enough, there's more rain and even some snow on the horizon.
The weather system is moving northeast from drenched parts of the Chicago area starting in the morning hours and was expected to move around 10 p.m.
After that, we will see a short break overnight.
Saturday could start with a glimpse of sunshine and temperatures into the 30s — before a taste of winter arrives.
The system approaching Wisconsin will slide toward the Chicago area, providing a chance for rain and snow showers in the afternoon, said Brant Miller, chief meteorologist for the NBC 5 Storm Team.
Shoveling likely won't be necessary because much of the area will only see about a tenth of an inch of snow.
However, the story will be different in parts of northwest Indiana.
Parts of LaPorte and Porter counties could see lake-shaped snow bands through the evening, with minor accumulations of around an inch.
After the snow ends, get ready for the return of pleasant conditions through the rest of the weekend.
The sun will return on Sunday with temperatures rising into the upper 40s, according to meteorologists. Then, there will be a dramatic warm-up on Monday, as temperatures rise into the low 60s.
Tuesday will be warmer, with temperatures expected to reach around 65 degrees. Although it will likely be clear most of the day, rain is possible in the evening.
