While the left is salivating over Joe Biden's State of the Union address, the polling numbers tell a different story.
Even the far-left Washington Post admitted that the numbers do not live up to the hype.
In a report issued Friday, the newspaper acknowledged that while the left loudly applauded Biden's divisive, confusing and angry rhetoric, it is “not clear that the American public saw the race on its home turf as they did.”
The report noted:
Democrats would like to believe that President Biden changed the game for 2024 with his State of the Union address Thursday night, displaying verve and combat amid concerns about his age and mental acuity.
The Biden campaign and some media outlets pointed to a CNN poll immediately after the speech that showed 65 percent of viewers gave Biden's speech a positive review. Viewers also shifted 17 points toward believing the country is headed in the right direction – from 45% before the speech to 62% after the speech.
He went on to explain that these positive polling numbers are somewhat of a red flag:
It's also true that State of the Union addresses almost always receive very positive reviews, in part because viewers tend to rely disproportionately on their allies.
The 65% who had a favorable view of the speech was actually lower than any such speech CNN has polled for in the past quarter-century — the previous low being Donald Trump's 2018 speech (70 percent).
The 35 percent who gave a “very” positive review actually related to Biden’s speech last year (34 percent), an all-time low. The next lowest were Biden's 2022 speech and George W. Bush's 2007 speech, which each received “very” positive ratings from 41 percent of viewers.
The speech, which included Biden repeatedly falsely claiming success on issues where he miserably failed, was best summed up by Tucker Carlson on the X platform.
“Joe Biden is actually a cruel and evil demagogue,” he explained. “A man who has no problem at all denouncing his fellow Americans and putting his political opponents in prison as he did.
He continued: “This was perhaps the darkest and most un-American speech ever given by an American president.” “In fact, it was not a speech, it was a rant, completely lacking in decency or generosity toward his fellow Americans.”
Donald Trump also commented on Biden's efforts, describing the 81-year-old as “mentally deranged.”
“Biden's speech last night was harshly criticized around the world. Only crazy people on the radical left are trying to make the best of it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“He took 41 minutes to talk briefly about immigration and borders, a topic he was very weak at. There is no talk of arming himself against his very calm and gentle opponent. Angry as hell, this guy is a psychopath!”
