The south faces the risk of severe weather and floods
Strong storms continue to rage across the southern United States on Friday, with an additional threat of flooding in some major cities in the region. Severe weather is likely over a large area extending from Texas and Oklahoma eastward into southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
The flood threat covers much of the same area, but there are serious concerns about the potential for flash flooding in an area covering near Birmingham and Montgomery in Alabama and south of Atlanta in Georgia.
St. Patrick's Day plans could be dampened this weekend in the Northeast
We're just over a week away from St. Patrick's Day, but that's not stopping some places from enjoying the festivities. Many of these events are scheduled to occur in the Northeast this weekend as the region expects very wet and even wintry weather. Rain is expected in places like Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Snow is likely in upstate New York, northern New England and Maine.
Golf joins the “fatal dozen” list of deaths caused by lightning
According to the National Lightning Safety Council, golf has surpassed football on the list of the 12 deadliest activities when it comes to lightning. Fishing tops the list of what the council calls the “Deadly Dozen.”
