Joe Biden declared that freedom and democracy are “under attack” in the United States and abroad, while delivering one of the most important speeches of his presidency.
In his State of the Union address, the US President implored Congress to continue supporting Ukraine in its war efforts against Russia, saying: “History is watching.”
He warned of the effectiveness of Russian President Vladimir Putin and “confirmed” that the Kremlin would not stop at merely attacking Ukraine.
“If the United States withdraws now, it will put Ukraine at risk. Europe at risk. And the free world at risk encourages others who want to do us harm,” Biden said.
“My message to President Putin is simple. We will not withdraw. We will not bow. I will not bow.”
Speaking on the House floor, Biden quickly turned his attention to his Republican opponent and predecessor, Donald Trump, and condemned him Recent comments on Russia.
The 81-year-old focused on the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol by Trump supporters — whom he did not recognize as “patriots.”
He called for confronting the threat to democracy, and said that Trump and some members present in the room were seeking to “bury the truth” – something he said he would not do.
With the US election approaching in November, Biden spoke forcefully on a number of issues facing America and addressed a select group of invited guests to make key points for his party.
