Meteorologists have sad news for Bluegrass State residents: it could be cloudy in Kentucky during the 2024 solar eclipse.

AccuWeather experts issued early viewing forecasts a month before the rare event, which will be held on April 8.

AccuWeather's first cloud forecast, released on March 7, is along the path of the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

Where will the skies be clear during the 2024 solar eclipse?

South Texas, the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes regions will be the best places for favorable weather, AccuWeather's Paul Pastelok said. Indiana, along the path of totality and not far from the Louisville area, is expected to have clear skies.

The Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley have slightly higher odds of cloudy weather.

    How were the forecasts made?

The AccuWeather team analyzed multiple weather factors and historical data during the timing of the eclipse on April 8.

“There is a high probability that a cold front will move across the central and eastern United States near the time of the eclipse,” Pastelok said in a press release.
