A flash flood warning brought heavy rain and intense lightning to the Metroplex area Thursday evening.
Many roads in the DFW area had to be closed to protect drivers from standing water, and the severe weather sent bursts of lightning across the sky.
Doorbell camera footage captured a powerful lightning strike outside a home in Dallas.
“And to be honest, I thought someone dropped a bomb on our house,” Austin Green said. “It was absolutely amazing.”
Chris and Austin Green took multiple photos of the attack and its aftermath, which resulted in a tree being burned down the side of their street.
“I knew it was lightning at that point, but I had never heard it near our house,” Chris Green said. “So it was pretty terrifying.”
Several road closures were issued due to standing water, including a stretch of U.S. 377 in Keller next to Westport Parkway.
Parker County felt the rapid accumulation of floodwaters.
“It rained quickly, it flooded quickly, and unfortunately it's still raining,” said Melissa Hadley, founder of Golden Reward Sanctuary.
Cell phone video showed floodwaters rising at Hadley Farm in Weatherford, where the owner said she had never seen heavy rain fall so quickly before.
“My little ride that was going to the back pastures literally turned into a river,” Hadley said. “And my shoes were probably eight inches deep.”
Hadley had to dismantle debris that was blocking the flow of water to ensure her horses were not affected by the flood.
“This is the worst I've seen in the six years I've lived here,” she said. “We've had other times when it's flooded, but it seems like everything is coming down from the fields.”
