Realizing the importance of being a woman in technology is crucial; It's about understanding the journey, celebrating progress and anticipating exciting developments.
Technology is not just about applying knowledge; It is a passion that ignites the hearts of many, especially us women. Establishing a foothold in the technology sector, where women often face challenges in having their presence recognized, represents an important milestone for women. My love for technology started early: I looked into computers as my core subject in high school. I eagerly subscribe to technology boards on Flipboard to stay up to date on new technologies. Watching the development from the invention of the abacus to today's automated systems is truly inspiring. We've had an amazing journey, and it's exciting to be part of an industry that is constantly changing the way we live and work.
As a QA Engineer, my passion is ensuring top-notch products and maintaining a strong focus on quality throughout the development journey. The most interesting aspect of my role is spotting errors. It's funny how errors appear in unexpected ways. However, this process is not only entertaining; It is an integral part of ensuring product excellence. Furthermore, I enjoy thinking from both an implementation and user perspective about any requirements.
Hybrid and remote working have diversified the tech industry
The integration of hybrid and remote working has significantly diversified the technology industry. Following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the shift towards remote work in particular has led to a wave of diversity and opportunities for women in my home country, Pakistan. Traditionally, women in Pakistan tend to gravitate towards careers such as teaching, due to the appeal of flexible working hours. However, the advent of remote work has become a catalyst for change, empowering them to pursue their career aspirations and goals with greater flexibility and independence. This paradigm shift not only indicates a positive development in professional dynamics, but has also opened up avenues for women to actively participate in the technology sector.
There is still progress to be made
Recognizing the dominance of male figures like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg in the world of technology, it is essential to highlight the inspiring stories of women who have overcome challenges to achieve success. This highlights the importance of representation – a powerful idea that fuels motivation. In an industry where the gender balance is skewed toward men, feelings of imposter syndrome are not uncommon. So, I've always admired the idea of women empowering and supporting each other. She actively encouraged graduate students to embrace their passions and challenge themselves in technology, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields, such as DevOps and development.
To close the gender gap, I strongly support women-led career counseling sessions in technology. This will give courage and motivation to girls and women for a thriving career in technology. In addition, workplaces can make impactful changes to support women, such as providing additional holidays dedicated to women's well-being, promoting a comfortable work environment, and most importantly, ensuring equal opportunities. Initiatives such as flexible hours, working from home or mixed cultures, paid maternity leave, health care benefits, and efforts to reduce the pay gap collectively contribute to a more inclusive and supportive workplace for women.
believe in yourself
To all the amazing women navigating the dynamic world of technology, my advice is: embrace confidence and self-confidence. We often put ourselves off, waiting for that elusive perfection before diving into a new technology. My motto is, if you get the basics down and understand 60% of the technology, keep applying with confidence – you will learn and grow along the way.
Additionally, I strongly support honing your communication skills. In the world of technology, building connections is about opening doors of opportunity. The more you network within your desired career, the more likely you are to stumble across new possibilities and climb the ladder of success. So, my advice is to enter the world of technology with confidence, apply your skills boldly, and weave a network that will push you towards the pinnacle of your aspirations.
Experience the magic of technology
Technology is truly amazing as it adds an extra touch of excitement to our lives. Imagine the excitement of automating entire systems, where mundane regression steps are reduced, giving us valuable time to delve into the vast world of new technologies and personal development. Imagine this: While automation takes care of the heavy lifting seamlessly, I can get a cup of coffee or indulge in a little yoga – it's like having a tech-savvy assistant at your fingertips.
And let's not forget the marvels of artificial intelligence, especially amazing concepts like deep learning. The language learning models used to create chatbots give us instant access to information with just a question. It is inspiring to think that just five or six years ago, we could not have imagined that something future could happen so smoothly. The journey of technology is nothing short of amazing, full of constant innovation and surprises that keep us on the edge of our seats. That's exactly why I'm happy to be a part of this technology industry.
