Two Brighton fans were stabbed in the Italian capital before the team's Europa League match against Roma, according to local media.
Police in Rome said that two English men, in their 20s, were attacked shortly after midnight in the Monti neighborhood by a group of six to seven people wearing masks.
The force said that the attack occurred on Via Cavour, near the Colosseum.
Officers have not confirmed that the men are in the city to watch tonight's Europa League match, but local media reports indicate that the victims are Brighton fans who traveled to Rome to attend the match.
Police said the men suffered stab wounds before their wallets and documents were stolen.
Officers at Viminali Police Station said they were called to the scene by a restaurant waiter, where the victims approached them and asked for help after being stabbed.
Police said the men were between 26 and 27 years old, one of whom was born in 1996 and the other in 1997.

The older fan suffered three stab wounds in one of his legs and is receiving treatment at San Giovanni Hospital.
The younger fan received two stab wounds and is receiving treatment at the Umberto I Hospital.
Police did not specify where the younger fan was injured, but local reports indicate that he was also stabbed in one of his legs.
Officers said they were searching for the attackers but had not yet been identified.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement: “We are providing assistance to two British citizens who were attacked in Rome, and they are in contact with local authorities.”
Brighton will play Roma in the first leg of the round of 16 of the tournament At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Thursday afternoon.
Police said 100 officers would be deployed for the match.
