Republicans help pass spending bill: The truth about spending

Many Americans vote Republican because they are supposed to do the opposite of Democrats. Especially on an issue like spending.

But what if Republicans are as bad as Democrats on this issue?

What if the current Republican-led House spent more than the House when Nancy Pelosi led it?

That's exactly what some conservative Republicans say happened Wednesday night when the House GOP majority passed Chuck Schumer's “minivan” spending bill.

Budget tricks and allocations are a heady cocktail.

After 14 months of sobriety, Congress fell off the wagon.

By a vote of 339 to 85, the Republican-led House just approved a minibus that spends tens of billions more than Pelosi's House spent on the same things last year.

Republicans are no better than Democrats on the spending bill

From Yahoo News, “The House pushes government funding bill days before partial government shutdown deadline — and some far-right Republicans aren't happy.”

The term “far right” clearly implies concern about excessive government spending.

    Anyway, the story continued:

The House passed the more than $450 billion funding package on Wednesday by a vote of 339 to 85, with nearly all Democrats and 132 Republicans voting in favor. Members of the far-right Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives expressed their dismay at the settlement.

The hardline group issued a joint statement on Tuesday encouraging other Republicans to vote against the spending bill, arguing that it does not address GOP priorities and sacrifices the influence they have over their majority in the House of Representatives.

Republicans who voted no wanted their dissenting voices to be heard loud and clear.

A “no” vote on complete surrender to politics was a simple matter.

Another day of Congress' indebtedness to the American people who can barely afford the cost of living.

    From Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene:

“The level of spending for minibuses today is higher than what was agreed upon under Speaker McCarthy. This bill not only increased spending, it gave Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer everything they wanted on their wish list, and that's something I will always refuse to vote for.”

    – Echo Voice (@ReachEchoVoice) March 7, 2024

Several Freedom Caucus members tagged the bill as “#SwampOmnibus” on social media.

From Lauren Boebert, citing Joe Biden's upcoming State of the Union address on Thursday:

the #The comprehensive swamp It maintains coronavirus spending levels, funds the Green New Deal, and cuts out almost all the conservative policy riders we fought for.

No wonder Democrats are attacking this brutality before Sleepy Joe takes the stage tomorrow.

    The real question is: why…

Representative Thomas Massie noted that Senator Lindsey Graham added eight appropriations in the omnibus resolution that was passed.

A Republican Senator gets 8 earmarks at the mosque today.

No one voted to add these items and no one has the right to vote to delete them.

We go back 14 years, to before the Tea Party wave of 2010.

What is the purpose of the Republican Party?

“The ‘minibus’ bill funds multiple departments, including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs,” Yahoo noted. It now moves to the Senate for approval to become law. Several additional appropriations bills will need to pass by March 22 to keep Congress afloat and avoid a government shutdown this year.

If Republicans are spending as much – or even more – than Democrats, what is the point of their party?

What's the point of voting Republican again?
