A Fire Weather Warning is in effect from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM CST Thursday for Cochran, Hockley, Terry and Yoakum counties in Texas. Critical weather conditions are expected.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM CST/11:00 AM to 7:00 PM MST on Thursday for Gaines County, Texas, and Lea County, New Mexico. Critical weather conditions are expected.

It's expected to be partly sunny to mostly cloudy this morning. The weather will become mostly sunny to partly cloudy by midday through the afternoon. It will be breezy and warmer Thursday across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Critical fire weather conditions will lift late this morning and into the early evening across the southern Plains. Meanwhile, an isolated thunderstorm or two may develop late this afternoon across the Rolling Plains. High temperatures will range from the upper 60s to upper 70s. Winds will be west-southwesterly, at a speed of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. The chance of rain is 20 percent.

Update: The Storm Prediction Center maintains a “marginal” risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening across the Rolling Plains. There is a “slight” risk (level 2 out of 5) just north of the Childress area. Hail up to 1/4 inch (1.00 inches) and wind gusts up to 60 mph are the primary threats. The tornado risk is low but not zero.

The weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy this evening. Clouds will be increasing overnight. There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm or two in the evening across the Rolling Plains. It will remain breezy at times with lows in the mid to mid 30s. The wind will be west-southwesterly, with a speed of 10 to 20 knots.
And tonight. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening off Caprock. The weather will be cooler and breezy. Low temperatures will range from the mid 30s to mid 40s. The wind will be westerly at a speed of 15 to 20 knots. The chance of rain is 20 percent.

Highs on Sunday will be in the mid to upper 60s. Highs on Monday will be in the 70s to mid 70s. Highs on Tuesday will range from the mid to upper 70s. Highs expected on Wednesday will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s.
Low temperatures on Friday range from the mid 30s to the mid 40s. Morning lows on Saturday and Sunday will range from the mid 20s to mid 30s. Monday's lows will range from the middle 30s to lower 40s. Lows Tuesday and Wednesday morning will range from the upper 30s to upper 40s.

There are still no notable changes in drought conditions across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) update released Thursday, February 29. A good portion of the Southern Plains and all of the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains remain classified as drought-free. Moderate drought (D1) conditions continue to be reported across parts of the south-northwest Plains. Meanwhile, abnormal drought (D0) continues to be reported across the northwest Southern Plains, far western Southern Plains, and parts of the southwestern Plains.
