Here comes the rain – NBC Boston

Overnight heavy rain is moving away from our area but standing water, flowing water and rising water lurk in its wake. Travel safely today!

The remnants of rain will continue until midday before we see a complete collapse Thursday afternoon in many locations. The exception is Cape Cod, where some occasional light rain will continue into the evening.

Gusty winds batter the coast from Cape Ann to Nantucket. Later Thursday, as the storm moves away, those winds will focus on the Outer Cape where they will continue into Friday morning. Otherwise, we'll see lighter winds elsewhere and a return of sunshine as we head into the weekend.

We're not promising the best spring weekend, but we'll make it happen. Especially on Saturday, when we stay dry until the evening, but get under the clouds in the afternoon. Sunday rain is undesirable. But wide open for another 1+ from water in most locations. Once again, winds are blowing strong, with gusts over 50 degrees ahead of the storm along the coast.

As the storm moves into the Gulf of Maine, it will strengthen — and will likely “bomb” as it rapidly intensifies. This will increase winds on the back side and even pull in some snow showers from northern New England. Cold temperatures will also move in through Sunday night and Monday morning.

Next week is a sight for sore eyes in this wet style. Consecutive days of dry weather with a gradual warming trend. By the end of the week, we will be knocking on the door of sixty again.
