Syracuse, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – There's moisture now, but drier changes are on the way! Details below…
Rainfall decreased overnight
It's been a rainy evening across Central New York, but after midnight conditions will slowly improve. We expect rain to subside as pressure drops and a cold front slides south and east of the Chinese Yuan.
Lows drop into the mid 30s to near 40 with areas of fog.
Dry until the end of the week
High pressure slides out of Canada in the latter half of the week. This is the center of a dry air mass that will bring more sunshine on Thursday after a cloudier start as we climb back into the low to mid 50s.
Friday looks great with more sunshine expected thanks to the aforementioned high pressure area remaining under control as it remains unusually mild. Weekend highs are in the 50s and maybe 60s for a few with light winds.
March returns over the weekend
Unfortunately, the nice weather we're seeing this weekend doesn't continue into the weekend as a complex storm system comes our way from the center of the country.
We'll start off the weekend with some wind and rain developing after 1 or 2pm on Saturday. Come late Saturday night into Sunday, it's cold enough to change the precipitation to some snow showers initially over the hills and then for the rest of the CNY through Sunday.
Snow accumulation appears likely across the CNY, including Syracuse, with the largest totals across the CNY Hills between late Saturday night and lunchtime Monday. Yes, that would reduce the chances of Syracuse experiencing its snowiest winter on record.
High temperatures over the weekend range from the low 50s on Saturday to the low 40s to start Sunday. However, temperatures on Sunday will likely drop into the low to mid 30s during the day with gusty winds adding to the cold. Stay tuned for updates on cold/winter changes.
