Swamp Dogg has announced a new album, Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th Street, which is scheduled to be released on May 31 via Oh Boy Records. Check out the new single “Mess Under That Dress” below.
Blackgrass It was produced by Ryan Olson, and recorded with a band including Noam Pikelny, Sierra Hall, Jerry Douglas, Chris Scruggs, Billy Contreras, and Kenny Vaughan. The record also features guest appearances from Margo Price, Vernon Reed, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon, and Cactus Blossoms.
“A lot of people don't talk about the true origins of bluegrass music, but it came from black people,” Swamp Dogg said in a statement. “The banjo, and the washbasin, and all that stuff started with African Americans. We were playing it before it even had a name. I try to touch on all the types of music that I grew up loving and listening to. This is my way of letting people know that I'm not just a soul singer or “Whatever they think. I'm so much more than that.”
