Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy praised former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley on Super Tuesday, saying he would like to see her have a role in a future Republican administration if she abandons her presidential bid.
McCarthy touched on the possibility of Haley withdrawing from the race against former President Trump while discussing the potential outcomes of Tuesday's races on Fox News. The states of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and American Samoa held presidential contests on Tuesday.
“Her campaign is probably coming to an end,” McCarthy told Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha McCallum. “But this is not the end for Nikki Haley. She has campaigned tremendously.”
The former California state representative praised the success of Haley's candidacy, which seemed like a long shot when she first entered the Republican Party race. She has steadily gained support in recent months, making her the last major contender standing against Trump on Super Tuesday.
McCarthy noted that Haley has become a dominant figure in the Republican Party, which could help unify it amid rising tensions.
“I think she has a very bright future. I hope she will be part of the future administration,” McCarthy added, citing her previous roles as UN ambassador and governor of South Carolina.
Haley has consistently vowed to remain in the presidential race until at least Super Tuesday, despite speculation that she will end her bid after suffering heavy losses to Trump, including a landslide in her home state of South Carolina.
Haley was able to defeat Trump in Vermont on Tuesday, her biggest victory since the start of the Republican primary season and which could add momentum to her campaign.
